PLTP Sarulla Operates Full, Installed Power Capacity Becomes 1,948.5 MW

JAKARTA –Geull Power Unit (PLTP) Unit III Sarulla medio in May is fully operational, thus increasing the generating capacity to 330 MW which was previously 306 MW. The existence of PLTP Sarulla is needed to reduce electricity deficit in North Sumatera Province. With the operation of PLTP Sarulla Unit III, PLTP installed capacity in Indonesia up to the time of around 1,948.5 MW and is the second largest geothermal power producer in the world, after the United States.

The commercial operation of PLTP sarulla Unit III is faster than expected initially targeted in Q2 of 2018. As for commercial operations the first and second units have commenced on March 18, 2017 and October 2, 2017. With full operation is expected to meet the electricity needs for 2 , 1 million Indonesian households

“We are delighted with the full operation of this Sarulla PLTP, making our energy security will be better, now has reached 1948.5 MW, we expect in 2018 we can add 110 MW more from 4 PLTP” said Head of Communications Bureau, Public Information Service and Cooperation, Agung Pribadi in Jakarta, Friday (11/5).

PLTP Sarrula which is a geothermal power plant project with the world’s single largest power purchase agreement (PPA) has commenced its construction in 2014. The project with an independent power producer (IPP) scheme was built by a consortium of Medco Power Indonesia , ITOCHU Corporation, Kyushu Electric Power Co., INPEX, and Ormat Technologies. As for electricity production is sold to PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) with a period of 30 years.
